Service

Jesus calls us to love our neighbors. Responding to God’s amazing grace, we hope to do just that! The people of Winter Park Presbyterian Church are very active in many service activities within and outside of our church walls. Our Board of Deacons are especially commissioned to guide our whole congregation as we seek to do God’s work in the world. Come work alongside us!

Food Collection Wagon @ WPPC

The church collects food and donations throughout the year.   Have a food item to share?  Simply drop it off in the collection wagon by the parlor!

This is just a small part of our work to address hunger in our local community and around the world.  It is, however, a simple invitation to remember others as you shop for your own household.

Prophet’s Chamber Interior Apartment Ministry
The Prophet’s Chamber Apartment Ministry: Winter Park Presbyterian Church has an onsite apartment. This ministry of our Deacons seeks to give a family in transition a place to land and spend several months in a safe, very affordable location. The goal of the ministry is to help enable medium term residents to move out into longer-term housing once they are able. WPPC volunteers are needed when we renovate and repair the apartment between residents.

The Deacons organize regular collections for Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard. Volunteers are needed on assigned days to collect food outside grocery stores in Wilmington. We typically collect on a Saturday. Volunteers take turns in shifts greeting shoppers and accepting donated food items. The food is then distributed Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard’s food pantry.

PW Mission Sewing Day
The Presbyterian Women of Winter Park Presbyterian Church engage in service and mission activities throughout the year. One primary service activity is their annual “Mission Sewing Day”. The ladies of the PW sew clothing and bandages for use in hospitals overseas. Care packages for hungry college students are also assembled. Come, lend a hand!

DSC00428Rise Against Hunger
We host an annual Rise Against Hunger event (formerly known as STOP Hunger Now) at WPPC. Our Deacons get us organized and energized as we welcome Rise Against Hunger to Winter Park. The event is both fun and meaningful as we package emergency meals for use by our sisters and brothers overseas. This project is a great activity for the whole family. A 2014 date will be announced soon!

We provide a wonderful preschool to our community.  Winter Park Presbyterian Preschool serves the children of our church and the wider Wilmington Community by providing a caring, Christian, half-day preschool.   As the church family supporting WPPP, we are delighted to provide them with hospitality, space, and welcome.

Find our more about the preschool here:  Winter Park Presbyterian Preschool

Preschool ChapelOur Pastor, Emile, and Christian Educator, Rachel, also provide a weekly “Chapel Time” for the Preschool students.  Sharing simple Biblical stories of God who loves us no matter what, Emile and Rachel seek to complement the work of our preschool teachers and staff in creating a loving, nurturing environment for the children.

We share our church building with many community organizations! Not a day goes by when the buildings of WPPC are not in use by a group of our neighbors. There are Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings every day at WPPC. (For a list of their meetings, please contact NA or AA.) Several Girl Scout Troops meet at WPPC, and WPPC has long served as the home of Boy Scout Troop 218. Our Fellowship Hall/Gym is used by children’s sports groups. We host a weekday preschool. We welcome other outside groups seeking to make a difference in our community.
