Holy Week 2016

Holy Week 2016 Schedule

Come join us as we journey from the exuberance of Palm Sunday, through the great love of Maundy Thursday, to the pain of the cross, to the Good News of Easter Sunday.  Come and worship.  All are welcome!

Sunday, March 20th:   10:00am Worship – Palm Sunday   Our choirs and musicians will lead us in procession as we enter into the story of Jesus’ triumphant (and challenging) entry into Jerusalem.

Thursday, March 24th:   6:00pm Foot-Washing Service    Meet in the Andrew Howell Classroom upstairs in our Education building.  In John 13, Jesus instructs his disciples to love and serve one another.  Jesus washes their feet to set and example and tells us to do likewise.  Come to this simple worship service  to sing, pray, and reflect upon our calling to love one another as Christ has loved us.  We will have basins of warm water and towels for those who would like to wash another’s feet and have their own feet washed.

DSC05035Thursday, March 24th:  7:30pm Maundy Thursday Service with Communion shared at long tables   Maundy Thursday is also the day when we remember the institution of the Lord’s Supper.  Come to worship at 7:30pm for a traditional service of hymns, the Word, and the Lord’s Supper.  We will remember the practice of Presbyterians of the 17th and 18th centuries by sitting at long tables to share the bread and the cup of the Lord’s Supper.

Friday, March 25th:  11:00am Good Friday Service of Lessons and Hymns

Sunday, March 27th:    8:30 and 11:00am Easter Sunday Worship Services  We will have two worship services on Easter Sunday.  Come early or late, but come celebrate the Good News that Christ is Risen!!!

10:00am Children’s Easter Egg Hunt on the Playground  Children are invited to our Easter Egg hunt on our playground.  It is always a lot of fun!

Sunday, April 3rd:   10:00am Worship Service  Our Chancel Choir will sing Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” from the Messiah at the conclusion of the worship service.

Pastor’s Reading Group: January 31st

Come join the discussion on Sunday, January 31st at 5:00pm.  We will discuss the book Sidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death by James Runcie as we share a covered dish dinner.

shadow_of_deathSidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death is a collection of stories of a mystery-solving vicar serving a parish near Cambridge in 1953.  Written by the son of an Archbishop of Canterbury, the descriptions of parish life ring true, and each mystery also is something of a sermon on an ethical matter.  The mysteries are also just plain good stories.

The Pastor’s Reading Group meets every other month to discuss a book.  Most of the time we read books that address the intersection of theology, culture, society, and faith.  Past discussions have included books by authors such as Nadia Bolz-Webber, Sara Miles, and Bruce Reyes-Chow.

Sidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death is the first book of what will eventually be a six part series.  The book has also been made into the TV series Grantchester which is broadcast on PBS.  (The TV series follows the book but takes some departures.  The TV series highlights the wounds of Mr. Chambers’ service in WWII.)

Come read and converse on Sunday, January 31st at 5:00pm.  Parents, please note that the time (5:00 to 6:15pm) overlaps with our Children’s Choir.

Ukulele Choirs go Caroling!

On Saturday, December 12th our Music Director, Sharon Moore, led members of our Children’s, Youth, and Adult Ukulele Choirs as they went caroling at Wilmington Health and Rehab.    We had quite a bit of fun singing Christmas songs with the residents there.  Below are a few pictures.
