Join us from 5:30 to 7:30pm on August 14th, 15th, and 16th for our 4th Annual Ukulele Camp.  We will share a dinner together before splitting into groups by age and Ukulele Skill Level.  All ages are welcome.  Last year, our youngest beginner was three and our oldest was 86 with lots of abilities and ages in between!

Groups offered will include:

  • Shake, Rattle, and Strum:  (Ages 3 to 7)  Ukulele basics, percussion, games and movement for younger children.
  • Kid’s Ukulele Basics and Beyond:  (Ages 6 and up)  A class for beginning and intermediate older children who are ready to concentrate on sharpening their ukulele skills.
  • Youth Ukulele:  (Rising 6th grade and up)  Beginning and intermediate skills for youth.  Music from Montreat / Massanetta will be mixed in!
  • Adult Introduction to Ukulele:  Meet the ukulele, learn basics about chords and strumming, and begin playing basic songs.
  • Adult Intermediate Ukulele:  Build on ukulele skills such as varied strumming patterns, fingerpicking, reading music and tablature, and understanding the relationship between chords.
  • Adult Study on Prayer:  Come engage in a thought-provoking study of the Christian practice of prayer led by Rev. Jonathan Bowling of Carolina Beach Presbyterian.

A nursery will be offered for parents who sign up their infants and toddlers by August 1st, 2018.

We do have a few ukuleles that may be borrowed from our “Ukulele Library.”

WHQR “Coastline” Discussion on Mental Health – Featuring Susan Lewis of the Community Counseling Center

Susan Lewis

On May 17th, WHQR featured a timely and needed discussion on Mental Health on their program “Coastline.”   Susan Lewis, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Presbyterian minister practicing as a staff psychotherapist at the Community Counseling Center, was one of two featured guests participating in the discussion.  Topics raised during the discussion included mental health challenges faced by adolescents (and adults) in the age of social media, faith and faith communities and mental health, forgiveness, and much more.

If you missed the broadcast, you can listen to a recording of it here:
