Bus Trips:  (Two by-request bus trips for September)

Monday, September 25th –  Meet at the Church at 5:15pmWe will go to the Riverview Restaurant at Blakeslee Air Force Recreation Area near Fort Fisher  (it is open to the public).     Please note:  the restaurant has a limited menu which is viewable here: https://www.riverviewrestaurantff.com/menu

Also, the restaurant does not take reservations and has been known to change its hours and days that it is open!  We will hope for the best!

Saturday, September 23rd – Meet at the church at 9am – we will tour the Battleship North Carolina.   Plan on about 2 hours aboard.  I will focus on the main (exterior) deck and one deck below.  While we won’t be doing tons of climbing, participants should be able to get up and down that (steep) set of stairs (ladder!).   Your pastor happens to know rather a lot about the ship and its history.   I will plan to share stories that I have been told by (now deceased) WPPC members who served in the Navy during WWII.  After touring the ship, we will have lunch downtown – I am glad to go anywhere that those who sign up for the trip want to go.  Once we decide on a place, we will let others know if they want to join us.

I have a membership that will get the first 5 to sign up for the outing in for free.  After that it is $14 a person ($10 senior / military; $6 for a child under 11).

Call the church office to sign up for either bus trip!

Volunteer Opportunities:

Teaching Ukulele at Lake Forest Academy:  One of the participants at Ukulele Camp is a teacher at Lake Forest Academy (NHCS School for children in crisis).  She has asked if members of our church would teach a Ukulele class during their “clubs” time of day.  We are starting with a trial period of every other Friday (September 8th, September 22nd, October 6th, October 20th) from about 12:30 to 1:30pm.  I will be going these four dates.  I would love to have 1-2 others go with me.  Bonus points if you know at least a little bit of Ukulele, but even if you don’t it would be a huge help to have another pair of hands.  Volunteers need to be approved through the school.  We will also have staff members present with us at all times to help.  If this is successful, we may seek to continue or expand our efforts.

NC Diaper Bank Mobile Distribution:   As another trial volunteer project, we will be volunteering with the Diaper Bank for their Mobile Distribution at the Houston Moore Community Center (near Greenfield Lake) on Tuesday, September 5th.  I believe that there is still room for one more volunteer for that day.  Look forward to more information about this opportunity in the future!

Go Visiting with the Pastor:   To do most at-home visits, I need to take a volunteer with me when we visit our members at home who live alone.  If  you might want to go visiting, we usually have a lot of fun!  We tell stories.  We sing songs.  It is a chance to see old friends and make new ones.  On most of the days below, I will be planning 3-4 stops.   Often, we stop for lunch.  Please respond to this email and let me know if a date would work for you!

Times are approximate:
Wednesday, August 30th – 10am to 3pm – I have a volunteer!
Wednesday, September 6th – 10am to 2pm
Wednesday, September 13th – 10am to 3pm – I have a volunteer!
Tuesday, September 19th – 10am to 2pm – I have a volunteer!
Monday, September 25th – 10am to 3pm – I have a volunteer!
Wednesday, September 27th – 10am to 2pm – I have a volunteer!

Serve Coffee To Preschool Parents – Monday, September 11th
Help welcome our Preschool Families – and invite them to WPPC events – especially Rise Against Hunger.    We will serve coffee from 8:45am to 9:15am.  We need volunteers starting at 8am to help set up.  Please let Emile know if you can help.

For all of the above opportunities, please respond to this email to let Emile know you are interested!
